My name is Lynn Fazekas and I’ve been a city watcher for a couple years but the budget crisis has been a real eye opener. The response to it has been horrifyingly dysfunctional. I won’t go into detail at this time, just want to say that we deserve to consider whether municipal home rule is working for us or not. This is why I support a referendum question in November.
Hi! My name is Mark Charvat and I have lived in DeKalb since 1981. I am a firm believer that the concept of HOME RULE has been abused by our elected leaders to unnecessarily raise our taxes on too many occasions. …Most recently this past April.
Our elected Alderman and Mayor have been deaf to the financial difficulties facing the average Citizen in this community. City Staff and the DeKalb City Council have not been minding the store, and now we have to pay for their mistakes with higher taxes.
The revocation of Home Rule in DeKalb will allow the citizens of DeKalb, not this “Tax and Spend” City Council, the right to make the final decision when it comes to taxes and will force our city leaders to be more accountable to the citizens of this community.
